Florida learns… every three years they review state-wide building codes. Tremendous strides here since Andrew. Much of the damage has been to “grandfathered” structures. You roll the dice.

Everyone asked about me, only discomfort. Could’ve been disastrous if the trees in the preserve behind me had fallen in a different (my) direction. And, I was fortunate to be able to afford the metal window coverings and a whole-house Generac generator that runs on propane; and, my battery worked for start-up, and I had extra oil as the diesel runs just like your auto. The biggest benefit, as it turns out, is where I live. You’ll notice the small white, totally unaffected square in the chart below. That’s me right below the yer in Myers. Matlacha: Gov DeSantis promised and delivered a replacement bridge to Pine Island in THREE DAYS.
Beach club has no beach or first floor guts…probably 9 months before I can return ☹️

L and I toured this area several years ago, great place - be careful- but well worth the drive over from FtM when you visit. My favorite (I featured in a prior blog) was one shop that sold vintage cars and guitars.

"Now what was the second problem?"
"We have no way to get clean water. The local mining operation has poisoned the water our people have been drinking for thousands of years. We've been flying bottled water in, and it's terribly expensive."
Once again, Biden dials a number, yells into the phone for a few minutes, and then hangs up. "The mine has been shut down and the owner is being billed for setting up a purification plant for your people."
"Now what was that third problem?"
The chief looks at him and says, "We have no cellphone reception up here!"

Greenwich Village: Music That Defined A Generation | Full Documentary Movie
This is a magnificent 1 1/2 hour documentary if you are of the generation that experienced folk music. I had no idea that so many pop artists of the late 60’s and early 70’s paid their dues there, two biggest surprises were Don McLean and Melanie. Did you know that Carly Simon has a sister who performed in the coffee houses with her? Jose Feliciano…AND the opening music captures perfectly: M & P’s Creeque Alley. I think about Gaslight Square in Saint Louis, I was just a couple of years too late to really enjoy it…I was one of the kids in the cars that just cruised the area, not partaking. Also a great observation: the coffee houses in GV where the night time glamour, activity, music and reading took place - in the daylight, or the next morning looked so barren, so beat up, almost dilapidated.

Our Founding Fathers were keenly aware of this fact. George Washington, in his farewell address, reminded our nascent nation that “[o]f all the dispositions and habits that lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. . . . [R]eason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.”
John Adams, in his inaugural address, praised the propagation of “knowledge, virtue, and religion among all classes of the people, not only for their benign influence on the happiness of life in all its stages and classes, and of society in all its forms, but as the only means of preserving our Constitution from its natural enemies.”
And, as if there were any doubt as to what religion Adams meant, he felt “it be my duty to add” that “a veneration for the religion of a people who profess and call themselves Christians, and a fixed resolution to consider a decent respect for Christianity among the best recommendations for the public service.”
The Founders knew that to survive, our republic required virtuous citizens. Ordered liberty was the end; religion was the means.
Flash forward to today, when the goal of ordered liberty has been replaced by expressive individualism. The individual is now greater than the republic, which is to cater to each person’s every whim. The individual maximizes his clout by declaring his most coveted desires “rights” over which no person or entity may trespass.

Origin of Left & Right...I have often wondered why it is that Conservatives are called the "right" and Liberals are called the "left".
By chance I stumbled upon this verse in the Bible:Ecclesiastes 10:2 (NIV) - "The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left." It surely can't get any simpler than that.
