I am making more use of links, music and visual. Click on them and then you might have a second link to search. Some locations, such as YouTube generate revenue for your "free" viewing by running ads, so be patient. On occasion there is a "skip ad" button. Sometimes it will load and start when you go there, sometimes you need to click on the white arrow in the red box.
I hope you enjoy the updates to my art and life as presented in this blog. IF you don't like the political stuff and don't want to receive future blogs just say so, no hard feelings. So far, only two have taken me up on the offer. With that in mind, remember:
Below the Fold below is where lies controversial stuff, if you don't want to go there, stay above.
New Art: Two versions of the same scene in Lakes Park here in Fort Myers. The first is an architectural construction by me, I'll call it Fish House, the second is pretty much the real deal, a pier attached to a walking bridge that bisects the largest lake. Both are done in oil, the first 10 x 8" on stretched canvas, the second 12 x 9" on board.
Well it IS art, It's the subject that is unfortunate. Sandinista communist who honeymooned in Cuban when it was against the law. Be careful who you vote for, NYs.
Florida:
Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park on a Sunday morning, just taking it easy.
Listening:
Justin Timberlake featuring Chris Stapleton on Say Something
Broken Lines by Mayssa Karaa
Jimmy Buffett: Come Monday which I have come to appreciate, and a cover of CSN&Y that I've always loved: Southern Cross. The versions I listen to were live from Fenway Park and another album which consisted of encore cuts. What struck me is what a weak singer he is...great songwriter but almost, almost as bad as am I. A lot of trouble with pitch and key, dawg. He sure is having a good time though.
Humor:
Reading:
A kind of biography, cheerleader book that lets Willie talk about Willie and what made him not just a great ballplayer but seemingly a great guy. Any team in the majors could have signed him but only the Giants stepped up and made the deal. It wasn't just race, he came right out of high school...missed the prom so he could start playing.
Watching:
Very interesting documentary on one of the (ironic) giants in architecture. I love the brutalist style. It took Louis Kahn years to establish his practice. His tough childhood and circumstances created a genius that was a weird dude. Three children with three woman, one his wife. The story is about his son who LK would not admit to publicly as he tried to learn about dad after his death. The last project was a government center in Bangladesh. The project took years and endless trips. The country loves LK for building this center, sticking to it for, in their words, the poorest country on earth. Bags of cement were hauled from rafts at the riverbank on the shoulders of laborers to the construction site. Scenes in the film showing the poverty of seemingly wonderful people who appreciated what little they have. When they talked about LK they had tears in their eyes. It made me think about our country...what if - the French, Spanish, English never came over and developed societies, governments, schools, Christian and Jewish houses of worship, built schools and universities and promoted private property and capital accumulation which enabled commerce which, in turn, lead to all kinds of technology and medical development. This land would look like Bangladesh, or worse. And for those of you who want to bring up the unfortunate issue of slavery, the native Indians had thousands of slaves, in addition to being brutal warriors against the other tribes, and some practiced infant offering for worship. We and the world are a lot better off for the development of our country and the establishment of a government for the people with rights granted from God, not other human beings who held power from time-to-time.
