Summertime on its way, soon June will be busting out all over

Enjoy the photos, you should be able to click on to open them up and even pinch open further.

Since I shut down my website, several of you have asked how you can see my art in one place. Well, I have just the answer: through Art St Louis you can use ArtLoupe; the link is below
artloupe.org

Now the (kind of ) bad news...You need to view it through their app on your mobile device, won't work on your laptop, desktop, or tablet. The benefit is that you can click on  "artist" and input Lyles and see all of my active pieces, a price, and an easy way to order. For me it is palatable that they only charge 10% commission. If you select a piece to purchase ArtLoupe will notify me, create a mailing label for me and all I have to do is package it up and mail it. It will add a S&H cost to you, usually approximatelyely $15 dollars. You can charge it or use your Pay Pal account.

I hope you enjoy the updates to my art and life as presented in this blog. IF you don't like the political stuff and don't want to receive future blogs just say so, no hard feelings. So far, only two have taken me up on the offer. With that in mind, remember:

Below the Fold below is where lies controversial stuff, if you don't want to go there, stay above.
And now, Ladies and Gentlemen, I present:

New Art:

8 x 10" oil on canvas board, Garden of The Gods, Colorado Springs CO.
I'll try something new here: Like it? It would look great on your wall. I will include the frame and Shipping and Handling, all for $199.00. IF you don't like the frame, I'll sell it for $159.00. Let me know.

Old Art:
But new location...on their way to Wynbrier Gallery in Estes Park CO. So far, they have sold two of my pieces. Stop in when you are in the neighborhood: This is their web link

two views of Hwy 36 entering Estes

Other Art:
Fascinating, short YouTube video on the analysis and restoration of Van Gogh's three Bedroom paintings  This link will take you there, there might be a short ad before the main video.I did not know there were three very similar but different versions of one of his best loved paintings.

I'm Thinking about:
Mary, you delighted as your son, Jesus, healed the sick. Intercede for our sick that they may receive good health and that they, in turn, may be healers to others. I forget, these were/are real people and that Mary was there to witness His healing acts. How fortunate. How gratifying. A mother and her son. He was inside her at one time. An Amazing bond.

Listening to: Both sides now - not Judy Collins...
A Side:
I have referred to London Grammar in prior blogs. Their song Strong seems to resonate more than ever,     The link to YouTube Strong    there will be an ad you can skip over. And, the sound icon might be on off, so turn it on - Headphones are superb. As one online comment stetted "I can't believe (this sound) is live". For me, I almost need a Kleenex. Its powerful. This is a short version, if you want the whole song, the next up on the YouTube feed is Full Performance (Live on KEXP) so open that up, it will start with their Hey Now (not The Moody Blues version). Same thing, the DJ in the studio can't believe it is a live sound. They have a few minute chat, interesting that she mentions Jeff Buckley. They finish with Interlude. Moreover, if you want I can send you my iTunes copy I purchased, just let me know.
Excuse me for a while
While I'm wide-eyed and I'm so down caught in the middle
I've excused you for a while
While I'm wide-eyed and I'm so down caught in the middle
And a lion, a lion
Roars would you not listen?
If a child, a child
Cries would you not give them?
Yeah, I might seem so strong
Yeah, I might speak so long
I've never been so wrong
Yeah, I might seem so strong
Yeah, I might speak so long
I've never been so wrong
Excuse me for a while
Turn a blind eye with a stare caught right in the middle
Have you wondered for a while
I have a feeling deep down, you're caught in the middle?
B Side: And, then there is some humor:
Watching:

A great video if you are into flying jets...it will take an hour but amazing explanation of G force, the mechanics of a fighter jet, good warmup for the Top Gun sequel. Link to YouTube video on jet flight

From our library, Wody Allen's newest...

Reading:
Two and a half chapters to go on Jordan Peterson's 12 Rules of Life. It gets better and better.

Thought I would give a novel a try. Last one for me was Where The Crawdads Sing.

Subtitle: Sports or Amazing...Tom Lawless, 1987 What he did: Narrowly avoided extreme humiliation

The success of home clubs in this Series -- the home team won every game -- was in part credited to the Twins' loud fans: This was the first indoor World Series venue, and the Cardinals' team physician, Stan London, gave every player on the team ear plugs. But the loudest moment of the Series might have come in Game 4 in St. Louis, when Tom Lawless -- a 30-year-old utility man with one home run -- hit what The New York Times' Murray Chass called "one of the most unlikely, most improbable, most stunning home runs in World Series history."

Lawless hit a Frank Viola fastball deep to left field, then slowly walked one, two, three, 13 steps down the first-base line while watching it go out. As it cleared the wall, he flung his bat skyward with his left hand, an all-time bat flip that Lawless claimed after the game not to remember doing, and then finally started jogging.

Until Jose Bautista's ALCS flip in 2015, that was probably the most famous bat flip ever, and like Kurosawa films and Mingus recordings, it's still as thrilling and cutting-edge an entire generation later. But the wild thing is:

This link should let you watch the bat flip

It is on YouTube, it will take a few seconds to load and there will be a few seconds ad.

"When he hit it and stood there,'' Cardinals manager Whitey Herzog said, ''I thought it must be in the upper deck. It was about a foot out. I asked him about it later, and he said he hit it as good as he could hit a ball. I said you better run."

Lawless would retire with three career homers, including that one.

Florida:
One day, two parks, walking and takin' photos:
Lakes Park map and four shadows

A rec center and adjoining park:

Just a wonderful local Italian diner if you are down this way

Humor:

Well, this is humor AND Florida!!!!

they gotta keep pushing, changing names and terms...

And then, this amazing funny story...

The Dad never gets in the picture since he is the one behind the camera...

RIP Eddie Haskell

Remember: Last street cars in 1966 in STL. I remember taking the Grand line to Sportsman Park for a double header vs the Giants, Willie Mays, Juan Marichal, Lindy McDaniel, Ray Sadecki, Gaylord Perry, Willie McCovey, Dick Schofield, Orlando Cepeda, Jesus Alou, etc. AND they didn't win their division!

Before my time on campus - 1952 - . but I heard about it when I was there later...

From an earlier blog, some of you asked what happened to the cars in the fire. Almost all but Enterprise (they were hauled up to a yard in Punta Gorda) rentals were acquired by a local scrap yard; almost as many survived as were burned, roughly 3,500 each. About a hundred are being held for the investigation.
Climate change:
Think about this, Columbia MO is about 125 miles from either STL or KC...If Jessie Hall was tall as Mt Everest you could see it

There is an important battle going on now. The Founding Fathers usually got it right...
"Let each citizen remember at the moment he is offering his vote that he is not making a present or a compliment to please an individual — or at least that he ought not so to do; but that he is executing one of the most solemn trusts in human society for which he is accountable to God and his country." —Samuel Adams (1781)
